Ventura Harbor is known for many things, including scenic views, restaurants, eclectic shops and bustling fishing operations.

Now, the harbor can also be known as the location for an upcoming music video that will celebrate Ventura County’s family-owned businesses.

About a dozen local business owners and residents came out to the harbor last Thursday to dance in a music video that will promote local businesses and celebrate the ongoing economic recovery from the Thomas Fire.

The music video was shot to the tune of Katy Perry’s “California Gurls,” with lyrics rewritten to be about supporting local businesses. The song, “I Love Local Business in the 805,” was produced by Emmy-nominated Santa Barbara songwriter Molly-Ann Leiken. The shoot was organized by I Love Local Business, a collective of small businesses facilitated by Women’s Economic Ventures, a nonprofit with offices in Ventura and Santa Barbara.

Lynnette Coverly, who owns the Ventura-based Coverly Professional Services marketing company, was eager to participate in the event to help promote businesses in her neighborhood.

“We have these great businesses right here and don’t have to go to a big chain or go online so I’m pretty excited about this,” Coverly said. “I want to support local business because (Ventura) is home.”
